The facility integrates fully automated processes, cutting-edge IT, and a strong commitment to sustainability. Christian Harzendorf, Operations Manager and project lead for the new facility, emphasised the technological importance of the BIKAR ZONE EAST: ‘This investment will create a production facility that sets new standards for efficiency and quality in the metal trade and places ecological responsibility at the centre of everything we do.’ Thanks to energy-efficient construction and optimised processes, the plant's ecological footprint will be minimised - a decisive step for the future of the industry.
Investment in technology and people
The project is not only technologically pioneering, but will also strengthen the economic development of the region in the long term. ‘We are creating highly qualified jobs here, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering, automation technology and IT,’ explained Dr. Jan Wolf, project manager for plant engineering. ‘We are thus demonstrating that Thuringia is an attractive location for high-tech companies.’ State Secretary of the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Areas Mario Suckert agrees: ‘Thuringia has every right to be proud of the construction of this modern plant.’
The planned facility features an intelligent network of high-bay warehouses, robots, automated guided vehicles, and high-tech saws, setting new standards in the metal industry and beyond. The highly automated interplay of digitalisation, automation and energy efficiency makes the BIKAR ZONE EAST an innovation centre that radiates beyond the industry.
Signal for Thuringia as a business location
Several distinguished guests also shared their perspectives at the event. Elisabeth Kaiser, member of the Bundestag, recognised the company's innovative strength: ‘Young people are given prospects in the region.’ She also emphasised once again the work-life balance and the associated promotion of women to management positions in the company.
Completion of the BIKAR ZONE EAST is planned for the end of 2025. From here, BIKAR AEROSPACE GmbH will supply customers from the aerospace, mechanical engineering and other industries with non-ferrous metal semi-finished products. ‘This project stands for the courage to actively shape the future,’ summarised Christian Harzendorf.
With this new facility, BIKAR AEROSPACE GmbH is reinforcing its role as an innovation leader and at the same time sending a strong signal in favour of sustainability, technological excellence and strengthening the regional economy. This is aptly summarised by the words of Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection: ‘This project sends a strong signal for Gera and the surrounding region.’
